We suggest packing comfortable and modest outfits that are ideal for walking around and sightseeing. There are no laws for the country governing what you can or can't wear. Check our ultimate guide on what to wear in Morocco and what to pack for your trip.
It depends. Check with your phone provider to see if they offer any international roaming. It has been our experience that this can be an expensive option and can be limited in effectiveness.
If your phone is unlocked, we recommend that you purchase a local SIM card to use while in Morocco. You can purchase a SIM card from Orange, INWI or MarocTelecom when you arrive and top it up and any local shop. They will help you install it and get things working at time of purchase.
Data is inexpensive and you should be fine with only 100 or 200 dhs ($10-$20) expense during your trip and free wifi is widely available in most businesses, restaurants and hotels. If you plan to use wifi to access WhatsApp, or messenger services, think about turning your phone to airplane mode or turn off data roaming to avoid surprise charges.
Mobile/cellphone coverage is generally excellent in Morocco's cities and metropolitan areas, although expect limited coverage in remote, desert or mountainous areas.Morocco is a cash society, Moroccan Dirhams is the most preferred form of payment in Morocco. You will find that cash is the only currency accepted in many places. Some hotels, more established, larger stores and restaurants however, will accept a credit card.
Tipping may NOT be added to the terminal when checking out with a credit card so please be prepared with small bills for that.
Morocco has a ‘closed currency', so you'll need to buy your Dirhams when you get there. Make sure you keep your receipts, as you'll need them to convert your left-over cash back into your own currency when you leave.
We recommend buying your Moroccan Dirhams at Hotel Farouk in Gueliz or Hotel Ali in the Medina for the best echange rates in Marrakech.
We do not recommend that visitors/travelers in Morocco drink tap water. While the tap water in urban centres is well treated and very clean it contains higher levels of minerals than the water in North America and can also contain various microbes or amoeba which may results in illness (upset stomach, diarrhea, vomiting, etc). Although such illnesses are not usually serious in nature, they can spoil a day or two of your trip. Bottled water will be available in your vehicle.
It depends. Every country has different rules and requirements.
Canadian, American, British and most of European passport holders visiting Morocco for less than 3 months do not require a Visa. As long as the passports carry at least 6 months validity after their planned departure. But as these seem to change on a regular basis, it's always best to check with the embassy or consulate of Morocco to make sure you have necessary travel documents.
We encourage you to make your reservation just as early as possible – especially if you are limited to the time period in which you can travel and want to book a high-end tour. Top hotels and activities tend to fill quickly.
It can take from as little as a week to a couple months as it depends on many factors ( how far in advance of the tour you contact us, hotel availability, complexity of the itinerary, change you may decide to make a long way). One thing you can be sure of is that we are impatiently waiting to meet you in Morocco, so we do all what it takes to finalize the details of your tour as quickly as possible. The more advance notice we have, the faster and easier it is to plan a tour to Morocco and more likely it is that you’ll get exactly the tour you want. If you wait until the last minute, it's most of the time more difficult to secure hotels and flight availability. Last-minute requests require an extra degree of flexibility and the planning process gets compressed which can be a little stressful to everyone involved. Morocco is a highly attractive country where planning way in advance your tour is key, especially if you want to travel over the Christmas/New Year holidays or during March break.

Please let us know if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions! We will do our best to serve you and will certainly communicate this to your driver and hotels. However, we also want you to be aware of a few things. We have no control over “traces” of nuts or any other allergens in containers, or bags, or kitchens. Morocco does not have the same food standards as the United States and other countries. If you have a member of your tour who has a serious condition, you may want to bring food with you based on the seriousness of the allergies and also be mindful of your own dietary requirements when ordering at restaurants. We also have no control over what insects you may come into contact with. If you are in any questionable circumstances, you will want to be extra careful.
There is a difference between tour guides and drivers in Morocco. Tour guides are licensed to escort client inside major monuments and they can accompany them into the major cities. Your driver will guide you throughout Morocco, but we will provide you with a professional tour guide in the major cities. Your driver will be your “eyes” into the culture of Morocco. He is a careful driver, soft spoken driver with good english and a wealth of knowledge himself about his native country, so a great host to have with you on your trip. If you would like, we can provide you with a professional tour guide for the entire tour, but this will have additional costs.
No. If travelers arrive on the same day, but at different times, the regular tour driver can pick up both or you can arrange for an airport transfer. What we recommend depends on the time between the two arrivals. If you need a traveler to arrive on a different day or city altogether, ask us how to best arrange the itinerary!
Yes. All of our drivers speak English fluently, we can also arrange for reliable drivers who speak Spanish or French.
For transfers, we mostly use Hyundai H1, Mercedes Vito minivans or land cruiser (4x4) Toyota Prado for the more challenging roads and complex itineraries. These cars are equipped with seatbelts and air-conditioning and can easily seat up to 6 people. If you have more than 6 travelers, please contact us and we will book you a larger vehicle as needed..
The cost of the private driver is all inclusive, except for his tip. Our tours cover all toll, parking, lodging, food, driver expenses and petrol charges along the way. We do ask that you leave a tip for his services. Even on the free days, your driver will be available to serve you. We will send you the driver’s name and contact information a few days before the tour, so you are able to contact him if you have any trouble meeting up with him.
Yes. As all our tours are centred into your own preference and travel style, we’re happy to arrange your transfers in more luxurious cars, but this will have additional costs.

We do not provide line item breakdowns of your itinerary price. There are two reasons for this. One, in Morocco most suppliers bundle hotels and services into package prices. And two, it can get unreasonably complicated and confusing as behind a single tour price is an ant's nest of exchange rates, reservation details and micro costs. We aren’t out to be devious; we are out to keep things simple and clear and our team works in the knowledge that while you are looking for something extraordinary from your holiday, you also want to get the best value along the way. Which is exactly why Absolute Morocco will always find the best hotels to match your budget, search for the cheapest prices on flights and give you a nudge about exclusive offers... Having said all of this, if you want us to explain the general breakdown of costs we are happy to do so, and we will always engage with you to help you understand costs and how to maximise your tour spend.
