This is a complete guide to luxury honeymoons in Morocco for 2023-2024.

In this in-depth guide you’ll learn:

So if you’re ready to go for a dreamy honeymoon in Morocco, this guide is for you.

Let’s dive right in.

Culturally rich, culinarily delicious, and naturally stunning, Morocco is a phenomenal travel destination that became a vacation hot spot among honeymooners everywhere.

Today, I’m going to reveal the secret on when to go, the best places to visit, where to stay and what to do to make for an unforgettable honeymoon trip. [Insider KnowHow]

In fact:

I’ll show exactly how I planned one of my client’s romantic honeymoon in Morocco and their thoughts about it.

First things first, when is the best time to go to Morocco for your honeymoon?

Morocco has four seasonal powers of seduction and an extremely varied geography, with a long windswept coastline, towering mountain ranges and serene deserts, making each season claim to be the best time to visit Morocco.

Most honeymooners travel to Morocco from September to December and March to June. If you like an extra bit of peace and privacy, February is your perfect alternative.

Why?

Because the crowds have abated and the weather is – gentle, bright and calm – means Morocco is still at its best, and the hotels/Riads are at their most private. (more on that later)

How long should you spend in Morocco for your honeymoon?

There’s no right or wrong answer to how long should you spend in Morocco for your honeymoon. It depends on how many cities you want to visit, and what you’d like to do when you get there.

I’ll suggest a getaway that suits your desires, needs and budget. As a loose rule, that means 15 – 30 nights spent hopping from city to city.

Should you want to focus on three destinations only, then 16 days would be ideal.

Here is why:

A two weeks itinerary in Morocco gives you sufficient time to settle in, explore the hidden gems, dine lazily under the stars of the Sahara desert, and get some time in the sand and the sun.

PS: It’s important to weigh the time you’ve allotted for your honeymoon journey in Morocco, and make sure that your trip is spent traveling, not transiting.

How many cities should you visit in Morocco for your honeymoon?

Even if you’re wishing for a fleeting one week honeymoon to Morocco, you could still enjoy a road trip from Marrakech or Casablanca to visit the golden dunes of the Sahara desert or the dreamy beaches of Oualidia.

However, if you want to get the most out of your destination-hopping honeymoon in Morocco, I’d recommend traveling to at least three.

This way, you can experience Morocco in all its beauty – from gazing at the ocean, as far as the eye can see to getting tipsy on a wine, and Oysters tasting in the Lagoon of Oualidia – before enjoying a candle lit dinner and, slumbering in comfort as the sounds of the desert lull you to sleep.

Which Morocco cities should you visit for your honeymoon?

Each city has its own personality and points of interest, from Marrakech and Merzouga to Fez and Chefchaouen. Some Moroccan cities are world-renowned for their romantic charm, while others are unfamiliar gems providing a beautiful variation on the bigger, better known cities.

From my early childhood, I’ve scoured the corners of Morocco, and think these are the perfect contenders for your special trip.

  • Marrakech (The red city)
  • The Atlas Mountains (Preferably the High Atlas Mountains)
  • The Sahara Desert (Zagora or Merzouga)
  • The Atlantic Ocean (Essaouira and Oualidia)
  • Chefchaouen (The blue City)

What can you do in Morocco for your honeymoon?

Plenty.

Take a sweeping heli-tour of the Atlas Mountains or ride a camel through the endless sand dunes of the Sahara desert.

I’ve picked out a few of my favorites below:

  • Witness an incredibly bright orange sunset in the Sahara desert while sitting on a sand dune above your tented camp. (watch the dunes change from orange to yellow as the sun went down)
  • Explore the High Atlas mountains via private helicopter
  • Wine and Oysters tasting with an Atlantic view
  • A Moroccan cooking class among palm trees
  • Enjoy a romantic river or lake picnic
  • Take a photoshoot in blue washed city
  • Float above Morocco’s countryside and enjoy a Berber breakfast above the clouds on a sunrise hot air balloon flight
  • Go Shopping in the ancient Medinas and Souks

The most luxurious hotels in Morocco for your honeymoon (according to me)

A Moroccan honeymoon hotel should provide three essential things: Authenticity, luxury, and seclusion.

Options include everything from luxurious hotel brands to authentic Riads, boutique properties to eco-friendly resorts.

Head below for my tried-and-tested favorites.

  • Royal Mansour hotel in Marrakech
  • La Mamounia hotel in Marrakech
  • Dar Ahlam hotel in Skoura (in the way to the Sahara desert)
  • Kasbah Tamadot in the Atlas Mountains
  • Merzouga luxury camp in the Sahara desert

Planning your perfect honeymoon in Morocco

First of all, congratulations on your forthcoming nuptials

I understand that a lot of work goes into preparing for your big day, and the same is true for planning your honeymoon.

This is why your honeymoon should offer you that much-needed relaxation, quality time together and the romantic trip of a lifetime you’ve always wanted to take together!

These are some secrets (inside knowledge) on how to plan a honeymoon that's low on stress and big on savings.

  • Start planning your honeymoon early
  • Wondering when to start thinking about booking your honeymoon? The ideal time frame is seven to nine months prior to your travel dates or even earlier especially if you will be traveling in the peak season.

    Here is why:

The best honeymoon hotels in Morocco do not have thousands of rooms available.

  • Plan your honeymoon together
  • While dividing wedding planning tasks can work, it's not the best approach when it comes to planning your honeymoon.

If one person handles all of the planning of your honeymoon, you might end up with a trip that's more tailored to their desires.

In fact, planning your honeymoon together plays a vital role in order to begin the journey of a lifetime on a romantic and compatible note.

  • Set a budget for your honeymoon
  • While your wedding ceremony and receptions might last six to twelve hours, its expenses can quickly tally up, tempting you to dig into the honeymoon budget to cover any excess costs.

Keep in mind that your honeymoon on the other hand, will last anywhere from seven to 16 to even 30 days allowing you to create one of the most special memories of your life together.

Therefore, it’s important to determine what’s realistic for your honeymoon budget and stick within it.

  • Don’t rely on the beautiful instagram pictures and online research
  • Using Instagram for inspiration, Tripadvisor or Google search to plan your honeymoon is a perfect start, but you shouldn’t entirely rely on them.

In fact, online reviews can paint a picture that doesn't match reality and it's best to use the help of a friend and family member who have been many times to Morocco — and/or a travel professional, to plan the perfect honeymoon.

  • Use a Morocco travel specialist to plan your honeymoon
  • The task of honeymoon planning (on top of wedding planning) can sometimes take a stressful turn and this is where the help of a travel professional can come in handy.

In fact, using a reputable travel specialist to plan your honeymoon will save you time and money, as well as include added value through additional amenities, which will not only give you more time to focus on planning your wedding, but will ensure you have the perfect honeymoon trip.

Plus, you will have someone by your side until you return home.

Magical Honeymoon In Morocco

My wife and I had a wonderful 4 weeks in Morocco. Sanae was friendly and very helpful in organising our accommodations, transport and places to visit . She went out of her way to help us out and in this one instance had to make some payments first on my behalf. We would highly recommend Absolute Morocco for any couples planning a trip.
